"Qigong is the discipline of manipulating the bioenergetic field that surrounds and pervades every human being. Take a handful of Daoist philosophy, mix in a dash of mysticism, and add a boatload of quantum physics and you have Qigong." extract from IIMQ textbook

There are three major schools in Qi Gong (pronounced "chee gong"): Martial Arts, Medical and Spiritual (Nei Gong). All of them based on the same philosophy of Daoism, work and play with Qi, but have different purposes.
Medical Qigong is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It offers a holistic approach, methods and techniques for health maintenance, vitality and longevity, treatments of physical diseases emotional disorders, their prevention and assessment. Using an extensive knowledge of the body's internal and external energy systems, Qigong practitioner purges, tonifies, balances and directs Qi (life force energy). This energy healing therapy is a gentle and effective way to get rid of toxic pathogens and energy blockages on physical, emotional, mental, spiritual levels. Breathing techniques combined with flowing movements, creative visualization, including healing colour and sound, spiritual connection, meditations allow body/mind/spirit unity to improve health, will power, mental concentration and memory, balance feelings and emotions, awaken intuition and spirituality. How does it work? Everything is composed of energy (Qi) and everything is energetically interconnected. Energy cannot disappear, but may only be transformed. Qi is vibrating and moving within all things, may be of different density and frequency, but, ultimately, it is constantly changing, affecting and interacting with the surrounding energy field. The human physical and subtle bodies system is all energy. Qi is stored within the human body's energetic matrix and circulating along meridians and vessels (energetic pathways) of the body. With the help of specific techniques, developed over the centuries, Qigong practice balances the body's energy by purging toxins, restoring and regulating Qi in energetic pools and pathways, adjusting it with the environmental Qi (Earth and Nature) and Universal (Divine) Qi. Studying and practicing Qigong, a practitioner becomes aware of Qi within the body and an environment. One learns to cultivate and influence it. The goal of an individual studying Qi Gong is to master sensing this energy, generating it and being able to guide it. These skills are used for self healing as well as healing others. There's a simplicity to this holistic practice and its basic principles. However it takes a lifetime to master. Medical Qigong, an ancient holistic practice, is suitable for everyone and can be modified according to health conditions and any other limitations. There are many styles of Medical Qi Gong: it can be done sitting, standing or lying down, even walking and sleeping. Regular practice will strengthen the immune system, improve the functions of the body's organs and systems, assist in releasing negative emotions/beliefs, that do not support vibrant health, give the feeling of oneness and connectedness, harmony and love, better control over one's own life. Qi Gong Therapy and Healing Sessions: During a treatment, which is usually lasts about an hour, a Medical Qi Gong Practitioner scans and assesses the energetic field of the client's body in order to locate Qi blockages and stagnation. The task is to purify, regulate, balance and circulate the energy of the body. It's a hands-on healing method, where hands are kept slightly above the body or gently touching it. This work is very gentle yet powerful, since all healing happens on an energy level first. Qi Gong energy healing is based on Chinese Medicine theory and energetic anatomy. Attention is paid to the patterns of physiological and mental/emotional symptoms as they are closely interrelated and affect the physical body, its organs and systems in a specific way. After a hands-on healing session, a client is offered to learn some Medical Qi Gong movements, called prescription exercises, breathing, healing color and sound techniques, meditations that can be practiced at home addressing a particular disease. Depending on a disbalance, usually it takes a few sessions, scheduled regularly, to help the body accepting a new energy flow pattern. |
